RACHAEL Siggers produced an excellent performance to finish as the third fastest lady in the V35 category in the Daventry Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.

Siggers, who is a member of Kenilworth Runners, crossed the finish line in 1:14.37, with her strongest section coming in the 5km run, which Siggers finished in just 20:30.

Her finishing time was a new personal best for sprint triathlons and was over eight minutes faster than her previus outing.

The lady’s race was won by Helen Talbot of Nuneaton Triathlon Club in a time of 1:05.06, while Jack Bond won the men’s event in a time of 55:04.

It was also a busy weekend for Darren Pettifer who finished 37th out 367 finishers in the Badgers 10km event on Sunday after finishing in 44.28.

The race started and finished in the Atherstone market square and consisted of a one-lap course with two fairly steep hills. The race was won by Jason Barton of Stilton Striders in 35:51.

Elsewhere, team mate Dave Pettifer finished third in the Sandwell 6 Towns Marathon Challenge on Sunday.

The off-road event attracted around 50 participants and took them along footpaths, tracks and canals starting and finishing at the Sandwell Valley Show in West Bromwich.

The most important piece of equipment needed on the run is a light but bright torch as competitors have to run through nearly two miles of the Netherton canal tunnel.

Using the event as a training run for an autumn road marathon, Pettifer was pleased to finish in just over fours to finish on the podium.
