SPA STRIDERS had two members representing Team GB in the European Duathlon Championships last weekend.

Lucy Tugwell took on the sprint distance on Saturday and Helene Wright the standard distance on Sunday.

Despite last minute organisational and transition changes because of the tide and slippery conditions in the rain, Tugwell finished in 111th position in 1:14:08.

In very different weather the following day, Wright did brilliantly in the heat and finished her event in 2:37:12 and 64th position.

Adam Notley topped off his year of fantastic form at Amsterdam Marathon, running sub-three hours to finish in a blistering 2:49:27.

Pete Soley ran Abingdon Marathon in 3:39:46.

Other Striders took on half marathons overseas, with Kevin Baskerville finishing with a five minute PB in Toronto in 1:47:04 and Hartwig Busch running the Refrather Herbstlauf half marathon near Cologne in 1:36:26.

Spa Striders were also represented by two graduates from this year’s ‘10 weeks to 10K course’ at the Great South Run in Portsmouth, with Claire Rawbone finishing the ten miles in 1:47:49 and Alison Gibbons in 1:59:27.

Closer to home, men’s and women’s teams enjoyed the Midlands XC relays in Wolverhampton on Saturday.

The two men’s teams, in a highly competitive field, came 30th and 60th respectively out of 66 complete teams.

For the women, Striders had two masters and two senior teams.

The senior teams were 30th and 40th respectively out of 55 while the masters were third and sixth respectively from 29.

Special mention went to Claire Murphy and Jo Fleming who levelled their leg times to the second and were joint 40th out of 268 across all masters ladies’ leg times.

In the first race of the Tempo winter series in Ilmington new Strider Altor Tudero was second finisher in 38:56.

Lorraine and Simon Parsons finished in 56:33 and 42:38 respectively while Iain Roebuck came in at 49:23.
