MATT Clinton recovered from recent illness to win Statford Cycling Club’s annual ten-mile time-trial promotion near Alcester on Saturday.
It proved to be a breezy day, but conditions got a little warmer as the day picked up but conditions were not ideal with a crosswind for much of the course.
Liz Powell was the first Mike Vaughan Cycles rider away and she stormed off on her Trek Speed Concept to finish in a time of 23.34 which earned her a 33rd-place finish overall.
Fiona Nesfield lined up next and crossed the finish time as the fifth fastest women in 25.39, which placed her 55th overall.
But the best team performance came from Clinton who was the last man off and he regained his form by clocking 20.06 to win the event by a margin of 27 seconds over second-placed Jon Simpkins.
This weekend Clinton and Powell are back in action at the Royal Sutton ten-mile promotion near Dunchurch.
