HOCKEY: LEAMINGTON got their promotion push back on track with a resounding 5-0 victory away at University of Birmingham.
Despite losing their last two matches, Leamington played with confidence and strolled to a 5-0 win on Saturday
Goals from Ella Bromley and a penalty flick from Kerry Luckett put Leamington 2-0 up at half time, before Luckett completed her hat-trick and Louise Botrill added a fifth in the second period.
The result moves Leamington to within a point of main promotion rivals Cannock, who they face this weekend.
Elsewhere in the ladies’ section, the second team earned a credible 2-2 draw against top-of-the-table Hampton-in-Arden, thanks to goals from Rachael Graham and Maddie Bromwich – a result that keeps Leamington in fourth place.
It was an excellent weekend for the third team too, who won back-to-back matches in the space of 24 hours beginning with a 4-2 victory over Hampton-in-Arden on Saturday before backing that up with a 4-1 win away at Nuneaton on Sunday.
The only downer for the ladies’ section was the fourth team who were hammered 6-0 at the University of Birmingham.
In the men’s section, goals from Tom Elliot and Alex Palmer were not enough to stop the first team losing 3-2 at home to Kings Heath Pickwick, a result that saw Leamington slip to the bottom of the league table, swapping places with their opponents.
The second team also lost 3-2 away to Nottingham Players.
