Winning friendly streak ends for Warwickshire

THE FINAL County friendly of the season was not kind to Warwickshire Women as they failed to maintain their winning streak against hosts Bedfordshire at Great Barford BC.

The home side emerged 119-106 winners, with the highest Warwickshire winning rink coming from Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield), Janet Pooler (Stoke), Chris Ward (Lillington) and Liz Westell.

Their start was helped by a five-shot win on the third end and, despite a couple of three-shot scores against them, they were not going to be deterred and went on to win 26-10.

Maureen Tims (Whitnash), Margaret Boldy (Avon), Antoinette Lambert (Ambleside) and Di Wilkinson (Stoke) also set off well and, despite losing two five-shot scores, they were determined not to be beaten and finished convincing 27-16 winners.

Sadly the rest of the story was not so bright, although Pat Moore (Three Spires), Sharon Keal (Snitterfield) and Di Medhurst and Helen Harris (Stoke) started well and were fairly evenly matched as they pulled back over the last few ends to lose just 21-19.

Elaine Taylor (Stoke), Margaret Andrew (Entaco), Pat Lowe (Rugby Thornfield) and Di Thurlbeck (Lillington) were level pegging at 5-5 after eight ends but five shots for their opponents on the 15th end sealed it and they were unable to fight back, losing 21-9.

Skips Jenny Corn and Sue Hornsby were both unable to keep their opponents at bay and each finished 13 shots adrift.

After an excellent meal, county president Di Medhurst was delighted to present a Colt Badge to Sharon Keal.
