HOCKEY: THE WINNING run for Leamington Ladies’ second team came to a halt on Saturday after they suffered a heavy defeat against promotion rivals Edgbaston.
A win for Leamington would have seen them draw level on points with their visitors but it was not to be for Leamington after they fell to their heaviest defeat of the season and their first loss since December.
There was better news for the ladies’ third team who comfortably dispatched Berkswell and Balsall Common 4-1 on home soil.
Goals from Erica Smith, Sian Miller and a brace from Rosie Miller secured the points for Leamington, and their second consecutive league victory.
Elsewhere in the ladies’ section, the fourth team lost 3-1 away to Rugby and East Warwickshire, while the first team laid down a marker for their return to league action this weekend with a 5-2 friendly victory away to Loughborough University, thanks to goals from Bethan Ellis, Kirby Harris and a hat-trick from England mixed international Kerry Luckett.
In the men’s section, it was a case of two out of three with the first team losing 5-1 at home to Coventry Sikh Union – a result that leaves them bottom of the league table.
There was better news for the second team who romped to a 6-0 win away at Coventry Sikh Union, which helps consolidate their position in third place, while the third team won 3-2 at home to Aldridge and Walsall.
