THE SEARCH for a first win for Kenilworth in the Warwickshire Premier League continues after they were beaten by 113 runs at home to Marston Green on Saturday.

After electing to bat first, the visitors’ openers Saleem and Bashir both hit 60 runs each in an opening stand of 122.

And they were well supported by Mohammed (63) and captain Suliman (61) as Marston racked up 276 for seven in their 50 overs.

Kenilworth’s reply got off to a steady start with openers Dave Edmunds and Phil Edmonds sharing a 51-run stand.

But from 56 for one the hosts slipped to 79 for five and only Skipper Dave Edumunds with a very assured 87 and keeper Micheal Watts (27) made an impression as Kenilworth were bowled all out for 163.

Nawaz was the star bowler for Marston with a fine seven for 25 off ten overs.

Elsewhere in the Birmingham League First Division, Leamington continued their fine start to the season thanks to a comfortable five-wicket victory over Himley which moves them up to joint fourth in the table.

Despite winning the toss, Leamington failed to make early inroads as Worcestershire’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore (18) and Nikhil Vaidya (21) put on 51 for the first wicket.

However, a wicket each for Grant Thornton and Tom Warner reduced the hosts to 52-2 before India’s Wasim Jaffer was caught as Himley stumbled to 132 for six.

A partnership of 69 between Jones (45) and Turner (36) for the seventh wicket meant that Himley finished on 220 all out, with Khalid finishing on five-42 and wicket keeper Shahbaz Alam took five catches.

Despite losing Alam for seven early on in reply, Zack Fagg (43) and Ollie Currill (50) completed a fine all-round display with a 82 stand for the second wicket.

David Bailey (47) then continued his good start to the season and alongside Grant Thornton (49*) as the pair added 75 quick runs for the fifth wicket to ensure the victory for the visitors.
