Danny Quartermaine wins England Area title

DANNY Quartermaine has been crowned the new England Area Champion after beating James Peach in what proved to be a highly contested belt in Birmingham last Friday.

The young Leamington boxer had not been well leading up to the fight but still took on the challenge and came out on top.

Quartermaine set the pace in round one against his more conventional opponent who was trying to keep in the fight from long range, but Quartermaine’s body shots eventually took their toll to give him a healthy lead at the bell.

In the second round Beech enjoyed more success but again the relentless pressure from his opponent took its toll and Quartermaine finished strongly.

The doctor was called into the ring in the final round after Beech took a cut to the head but the referee deservedly allowed the fight to continue and brave Beech was eventually beaten by teenager Quartermaine.

Coach Edwin Cleary said: “The referee commended both boxers for an outstanding contest and it seems the belts really do bring the best out of the lads.

“We had some great feedback about the performance over the weekend and now with this belt Danny will be kept busy.

“He now enters the senior ABAs next month (April 10) as one to avoid. Looking to impress and push on himself for a England assessment.”

“We’ve on a high down the gym which is rubbing off on everyone and all the boxers. With Our coaching the boxers know now they can achieve anything.”
