Double delight for in-form cyclist Pierre Guern

IT WAS a double celebration for Pierre Guern after he took first place in two local events as the cycling season gets well underway.

The new roads around the Gaydon area have necessitated a radical replanning of several courses and the first event affected was the 5ive-mile course between Gaydon and Kineton.

Fourteen solo riders and one tandem lined up for the timekeepers on what was cool evening and Guern finished as the fastest rider in a time of 12 minutes and one second.

Athlete-turned-cyclist, Mark Wise was second in a time of 12.31, just ahead of Freddie Loveday (12.34) and Tom Lachlan (12.41) who all finished inside 13 minutes. Anouk Molliex was fastest woman in 14.17, beating newcomer Lucy Lacey, riding her first TT.

The following day the weather for the traditional hilly circuit around Harbury and Ufton was bright and sunny with a slight headwind along the finish straight.

Jason Haynes was the only rider to finish inside an hour in 59.54 while John Herring (1:02.53) finished second and Phil Burridge 1:04.22 was third.

The weather gods smiled on the riders again last Wednesday evening for the first ten mile TT of the season.

Guern proved again to be the man to beat, flying round in 22.36, while the ever improving Freddie Loveday finished as runner-up in 23.39.

Anouk Molliex was again the fastest woman after beating Lucy Lacey, but Lucy had the satisfaction of beating the 20mph target for the first time.
