THE EAGERLY anticipated battle between two leamington boxers Ben Castle and Mario Pinwoer for the Warwickshire Heavyweight belt lived up to expectations with bother boxers putting on an entertaining display.

In a rare fight between two fighters from two different Leamington-based boxing clubs, it was Pinwoer of Royal Leamington Spa ABC who won the title after a gruelling contest at Donnington Sports and Social Club.

The all Leamington clash started at full throttle and it was Fitzpatrick’s boxer Castle who made the early in-roads against his bigger opponent, but Pinwoer produced some excellent patient boxing under the instruction of his coach Ollie O’Neill.

The second round produced some torrid exchanges between the two fighters with Pinwoer landing the cleaner scoring shots.

The third and final round followed in a similar pattern as the second and it was Pinwoer who was crowned the new Warwickshire Heavyweight champion at the final bell.

“Pinwoer was the worthy winner but both men can walk away from the fight with massive credit from what was an epic encounter,” said Castle’s coach Derek Fitzpatrick.

“We wish Pinwoer the best of luck moving forward into the national rounds of the competition.”
