Racing Club Warwick dig deep to rescue a point

Leamington Editorial 12th Oct, 2017   0

FOOTBALL: RACING Club Warwick fought back from a two-goal deficit to earn a hard fought draw against Lichfield with only ten men.

After conceding two early goals, Racing were handed another blow when Jack Taylor was dismissed for a wreckless challenge on 20 minutes.

With the prospect of earning points in the remaining 70 minutes looking bleak, Racing dug deep and fought a spirited battle.

Powell pulled a goal back after some neat work on the wing from Billington. That was before Lichfield restored their two-goal cushion moments before the break.

Racing scored at the start of the second half to pull a goal back and looked dangerous every time they broke forward.

Cole saw his header drift agonisingly wide while another header moments later was well saved.

Racing keeper Cross was forced into a number of good saves as Lichfield looked to take advantage of their counter attack.

The equalising goal though came when Slevin volleyed home from a corner, to huge relief around the ground.

Racing almost snatched an unlikely win after a scramble in the box allowed Kavanagh to strike. But his effort was blocked by Lichfield’s sliding defender.

Warwick entertain Uttoxeter on Saturday, October 14, at 3pm.
