Old Leamingtonians Ladies defeated by high flying Buckingham

RUGBY UNION: OLD Leamingtonians Ladies travelled to face high flying Buckingham Swans for their latest Women’s Championship Midlands 2 contest.

Despite their best efforts, OLs slipped to a 34-12 loss against the league leaders.

Buckingham kicked off and immediately showed signs of a rock solid defence as they sustained building pressure from OLs in the opening ten minutes.

Eventually the ball was turned over, allowing the home side to score their first try.

OLs responded with a strong attack themselves, but it was a case of deja vu for the visiting side as Buckingham exploited a gap in the defence to double their lead with a second try.

Buckingham fell victim to their own strength moments later when OLs turned the ball over and forced their way through a gap.

A penalty followed, and scrum half Ffion Davie-Cale took a quick tap to stretch Buckingham’s defence and register OLs’ first try.

With another try for Buckingham Swans, the half time score stood at 15-5.

Though OLs enjoyed more possession at the start of the second half, it was the home side that got on the scoresheet first before they added a quick second.

OLs returned the favour with a determined attack after spending a lengthy period of time in Buckingham’s 22 – during which they had a try disallowed.

Persistence paid off though as skipper Jen Vermeulen charged her way between the posts.

But it was the home side that had the last laugh, scoring the final try of the game – which ended 34-12.
