Old Leamingtonians Ladies produce valiant display

Leamington Editorial 22nd Nov, 2018   0

A DEPLETED Old Leamingtonians Ladies put up a spirited performance against leaders Buckingham Swans but fell to a 29-0 defeat.

Due to a number of illnesses and injuries OLs were down to 14 players and, when Swans scored within minutes of the start, it looked like it was going to be a long day for the hosts.

However, OLs did not let their heads drop and attacked with renewed enthusiasm, pushing Swans back into their 22 and piling the pressure on, but they were unable to score any points.

Swans capitalised on their one-woman advantage with a well-placed kick over the OLs defensive line which led to their second try.

Buckingham were able to nab another try and conversion before the break.

The second half continued much as the first, with the teams fairly evenly matched but Swans had the attacking edge and were able to get under the posts twice more.

Some sterling defence from OLs, with some big tackles from Kat Jack on the wing, kept the score below 30.

In the final minutes of the game OLs had the upper hand but could not get through the Swans defence.
