THE TENTH round of the Corley Cycles Summer Series produced more positive results for Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club, as three of the club’s cyclists took on the latest race at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
Riders were forced to race on the inner circuit due to the constant showers, following a decision by the race organisers, which meant that fewer sharp corners were on the agenda, and therefore less risk to the competitors.
Tobi Ng and Dan Reynolds, both associate members of the club, participated in the colours of their main club Banbury Star, but teamed up with RLSCC rider Denis Zaboronsky.
After a slow but tense start, in which an incident at the back of the group led to a crash, the race was somewhat frustrating for the club’s riders, with a number of forward moves towards the front of the pack failing to come off.
The trio raced smartly and shut off a number of attacks around the 55 minute mark. before going back on the offensive themselves.
Heading into a frantic final lap, Ng threw caution to the wind and managed to break away after launching an attack from the bottom of a climb, holding his position to finish fourth.
Zaboronsky followed shortly after in sixth place, ensuring that he retains his Category 3 licence in the process after accumulating the necessary points.
Reynolds finished towards the back of the pack after losing sight of his teammates, but hopes to get back on track in the 11th round of the series on Thursday (June 27, 6pm).
