Stars new and old set to shine at Warwick Racecourse's Classic Chase

Leamington Editorial 10th Jan, 2020   0

THE ANTICIPATION for Warwick Racecourse’s premier race on Saturday has stepped up a level following the announcement of two former winners and one of the shining lights of the sport.

Eight-year-old The Conditional – a much-fancied hope for the future who is trained by David Bridgewater – is set to race at the McCoy Contractors Classic Chase, where he will be joined by previous champions One for Arthur, Impulsive Star and Milansbar and hope to replicate their success.

Broadcast live on ITV4 from 9.30am, the Classic Chase is often considered as a prime indicator for the Grand National at Aintree in April, so will be eagerly followed by racegoers and tipsters alike.

The richest fixture of the season at Warwick has an overall prize fund of £197,000, and £75,000 for the Classic Chase alone.

Other races include the grade two Ballymore Leamington Novices Hurdle and the grade one and two Hampton Novices’ Chase, with the former featuring eight runners who won their previous start out of the 12 entries.

General manager at the racecourse Andre Klein has labelled it “the raceday to attend” for horse racing lovers, and anticipates a “scintillating spectacle” in the 36th edition of the event.

Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at www.warwickracecourse.co.uk – with savings of £5 if purchased before midnight tonight (Friday).
