Air quality around school to improve with introduction of 'no idling' zone

AIR quality around North Leamington School looks set to improve with the introduction of a ‘no idling’ zone.

The school is encouraging parents and visitors to turn off their engines when waiting in the car park.

Drivers are reminded it will not only improve the air, they will also save money in fuel and vehicle wear and tear costs.

The campaign came to life after an ‘exasperated’ parent emailed to ask the school to put a note, about those leaving their engines on while waiting, in the parent bulletin.

And after research by staff the campaign was launched.

Headteacher Joy Mitchell said: “I believe the campaign is a very important one. If we can increase everyone’s awareness and contribute to reducing carbon omissions by getting parents to park up and turn off their engines, then we can make a difference to the quality of air for everyone.”
