Alison pedalling towards her 50th birthday for charities close to her heart

A PART-TIME firefighter is on her bike for two charities very close to her heart.

Alison Insley is pedalling 25 miles a day for 25 days, finishing on her 50th birthday on June 3.

The Kenilworth resident works for Warwickshire Library & Information Service during the day, but is also an on call firefighter with Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service seven nights a week.

The mum-of-one, who has been a firefighter for nearly five years based at Kenilworth Fire Station, is raising money during her 625 mile ride for the Firefighters Charity, which is providing mental, physical and social support to UK firefighters in need, through the current crisis and beyond, and also University College London, which cared for her mother before she passed away 14 years ago.

Pre-lockdown Alison had initially planned to cycle around all Warwickshire Fire Stations, having done a similar ride in 2011 when she cycled around all 34 libraries in Warwickshire.

But she is now carrying out the challenge on a static bike – lent to her by Warwickshire chief fire officer Kieran Amos – at her home.
