Antiques experts on hand in Kenilworth to value residents' treasures

Leamington Editorial 5th Feb, 2024   0

RESIDENTS can take their heirlooms or antiques along to a free valuation day in Kenilworth.

The valuation day is being hosted by Hansons Auctioneers for anyone who would like to know how much their treasures are worth.

A team of antiques experts will be on hand at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall from 10am to 2pm on Thursday (February 8).

There is no charge and no appointment is necessary.

The valuer will provide a guide price and advise if the item is suitable for auction. If it is and the owner likes the estimate it can be consigned to auction there and then.

Hansons draws on the knowledge of a team of experts and consultant valuers including familiar faces from TV such as Kate Bliss, Eric Knowles, Adam Schoon and the firm’s director Charles Hanson.

Other experts include world-renowned authority on books and works on paper Jim Spencer, music memorabilia valuer Claire Howell and jewellery/watches expert Helen Smith.

And Hansons can pluck diamonds from the mundane, quite literally. For example, clients have brought along inherited jewellery boxes thinking they contain costume gems, only to discover they own diamonds or gold.

A key reason to sell at auction is because items reach a global audience of thousands of registered bidders. This unleashes the potential for the item to exceed all expectations. Items have been known to seek for five, 10 or 20 times their guide price.

All items are photographed to appear in an online catalogue. This goes live prior to the sale day and bidding gets under way. However, it is not until the hammer falls on auction day that the final price is realised.

Auctions are broadcast live online and people can watch the drama, excitement and bidding battles unfold.
