Armed robbers threaten staff and steal cash from Tesco store in Leamington

ARMED robbers threatened staff and grabbed handfuls of cash at a supermarket in Leamington.

Four balaclava-clad men carrying blades, tried to break into a safe in Tesco Express on Cubbington Road at around 11.30pm on Tuesday (December 12).

The thugs – who threatened and pushed staff – stole cash from the tills when they failed to break open the safe.

They fled the store and drove away in a dark coloured 4X4 vehicle.

Det Ins Tim Sharp said: “The store staff did exactly the right thing by co-operating with the thieves, and fortunately none of them were injured. They were extremely distressed by the incident though, and we’re working closely with the individuals and their employer to ensure they receive the support they need.

“The incident took place quickly and the men are reported to have been wearing dark balaclavas.

“However, it happened in a busy area at a time of night plenty of people were out and about so we’re confident that there will be many witnesses.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
