'Army' of willing volunteers needed to help knit Christmas tree

NIMBLE-fingered folk are needed to help dress a Christmas tree with a difference.

The Big Knitted Christmas Tree project needs volunteers to fix over 3,000 knitted squares to the tree’s 500 branches. Angels, tinsel, lights and baubles galore – all knitted – need attaching too.

Volunteers are wanted on Monday November 19 at 7pm, the following Tuesday at 11am, and Thursday at 11am and 7pm, at All Saints’ Church in Emscote.

Rev Diane Thompson is urging people to lend a hand.

She said: “We don’t need experts at stitching, just an army of willing volunteers with darning needles or pliers to make this mammoth task complete.

“We need to fix the decorations to branches by Friday when a team from Jaguar Land Rover will help to put the whole tree together. The public are welcome to watch this feat of engineering from 10.30am.”
