Arty Lighthorne Heath youngsters battle it out to create shoebox gardens

CREATIVE youngsters at Lighthorne Heath Primary School battled it out to make the best shoebox garden.

They were set the challenge to create the most sustainable and wildlife-friendly miniature garden in a shoebox by two housebuilders – Barratt and David Wilson Homes, as part of British Science Week.

And the winners were Lola, April, Isla and Stefan who were presented with their science-themed prizes by Alex Evans and Val Martin, sales advisers at the nearby developments.

Class teacher Katy Hill said: “Our children are really motivated by science and this project was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about sustainability, making community links and to consider how green space can support mental health and wellbeing.

“We were really impressed by the detail and thought put into all of the children’s designs. Thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for supporting this project.”
