THE NAME William Shakespeare is making headlines once again – but for very different reasons.
A namesake of the playwright, also from Warwickshire, became the first man in the UK to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine at Coventry University Hospital, where it was broadcast live earlier this morning.
Mr Shakespeare was second in line to 90-year-old Margaret Keenan – the first person in the world to receive the vaccine following its clinical approval.
She said it was a ‘privilege’ and would allow her to be with family over Christmas, after spending most of the year alone.
The vaccines are being given to those deemed most vulnerable including frontline health staff, over 80s and care home workers.
They will be carried out from scores of hospital hubs across the UK today – dubbed V day by health secretary Matt Hancock.
Care home residents will start to be vaccinated within two weeks followed by other high-priority groups.
