Belvoir banging the drum for Side by Side

BANGING the drum won a theatre company some unexpected support.

Side by Side Theatre, for adults with learning disabilities, recently gave a performance of drumming at the British Asian Business and Professional Association (BAPRA) annual charity event in Leamington.

The event raised £3,000 for the charity, but in the audience were John and Sue Warburton of Belvoir Lettings in Leamington, and the couple were so impressed with the performance they offered to sponsor the theatre company annually.

The couple recently handed over a cheque for £500 after attending a recent Side by Side rehearsal at the GAP Community Centre in Warwick.

Sue said: “It is an absolute honour to be associated with Side by Side and its amazing team of inspirational cast and volunteers. We are looking forward to supporting them in the future in any way we can.”

Side by Side chair Penny Amis said: “We are delighted that a chance meeting with John and Sue has secured further long-term funding for our valuable community theatre group.”

Side by Side, founded by the late Sue Teers in 1987, receives no government, council or arts funding and is reliant on the generosity of business sponsors, voluntary groups, individuals and fund-raising by civic dignitaries.

Side by Side’s next show, Live the Life, will be performed at Leamington’s Spa Centre in November. Visit www.sidebysidetheatre.co.uk for further details.
