Black dogs at Dogs Trust Kenilworth looking for forever homes this Halloween

FOUR black dogs at a south Warwickshire rescue shelter are looking for their forever home this Halloween.

For centuries, folklore has spun tales of mysterious black dogs, often seen as protectors and omens of good fortune.

And during this spooky season, Dogs Trust Kenilworth is encouraging prospective dog owners to consider adopting one of its black dogs.

The four black dogs seeking forever families are Barnaby, Sam, Lance, and Melvin.

Barnaby is a nine-year-old Lurcher Cross seeking a calm retirement in an adult-only home with minimal visitors.

He forms strong bonds and will need gradual adjustment to being left by himself. He should be the only dog but enjoys walks with calm companions. A secure garden is essential for his playtime. Barnaby loves training, fetch, and countryside adventures, and he’s eager to transition back into a loving home with patient owners who appreciate his sensitive nature.

Sam is a gentle 4-year-old Greyhound in search of a calm, adult-only home. He craves patience and minimal visitors, needing time to build trust. Sam prefers to be the only dog but would enjoy quiet walks with similarly sized companions once he feels comfortable.

He’s a sweet, treat-loving boy who enjoys comfy beds and secure gardens for playtime.

Lance is an active six-year-old Lurcher Cross seeking an experienced, one-dog home with space to socialise with similar-sized pals once he’s settled. Lance walks comfortably with a muzzle and needs a secure garden. He enjoys quiet walks, prefers older children and needs gradual alone time adjustment.

Lance is affectionate, treat-motivated, and a charmer.

Melvin is a 5-year-old gentle Lurcher Cross seeking a loving home. He’s anxious about walking on a lead and needs a confident dog companion. Melvin is best suited for families with older children, offering him space when necessary. He requires help with basic training and a secure garden with six foot fencing.

Dogs Trust Kenilworth spokesperson Emma-Jane Thomas said: “While stories of old might tell the story of mysterious black dogs, there is no mystery to what the dogs in our care are looking for – they simply want to find their forever homes.

“Barnaby, Sam, Lance, and Melvin may all share the same colour coat, but they have their very own personalities and would make a great addition to a home. Join us this Halloween in making the dreams of our enchanting black dogs come true, as they look to find their happy ever after with new families.”
