A BLAZE at a new scout hut and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre was arson.
Emergency services were called to the site at around 9pm on Saturday (February 29).
It took five fire engines to bring the blaze under control and residents were advised to keep windows shut.
A spokesman for Wellesbourne Fire Station, one of those called to the scene, said: “The fire involved several plant vehicles and a building under construction, that was affecting the main leisure centre.
“Firefighters protected the leisure centre while other crews used jets to extinguish the fire.
“Unfortunately this incident was confirmed as arson.”
And 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts, which have been fundraising tirelessly to raise money for the new scout hut, said investigations are being carried out.
A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, there has been a fire incident at the new scout hut site.
“It has been brought under control and is currently under investigation. We would encourage everyone not to speculate until we know more.
“We will update everyone as soon as we have more information.”
