Bookworms in Whitnash complete Summer Reading Challenge

BOOKWORMS in Whitnash are celebrating completing the Summer Reading Challenge.

The challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and encourages youngsters to read six books of their choice in six weeks.

Libraries across the country have been celebrating 100 years of Roald Dahl and this year’s challenge was named The Big Friendly Read as part of those celebrations.

Whitnash Mayor, Coun Simon Button and his wife Kate visited Whitnash Library to present medals and certificates to youngsters who completed the challenge.

Coun Button said: “It was an honour to be able to present the medals and certificates to those who read six books in six weeks.

“Around 80 children took part in this challenge, which is outstanding for a town the size of Whitnash.

“It is fabulous to see all of these children still utilise the valuable resource of the library and would prefer to read books than spend their time using technology.”
