A MAJOR incident at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre has brought much of Stratford town centre to a standstill this afternoon (Saturday).
Witnesses at the scene report seeing a man sitting on the railing outside the RSC Rooftop Restaurant while a second man – potentially a member of the police – negotiates with him.
Road closures are in place along Waterside and along part of Sheep Street and ambulances are in attendance.
Pedestrians are being moved away from the area by police officers and RSC staff.
Warwickshire Police stated on its Twitter page: “Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare of a man at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Waterside in Stratford. Please avoid the area while we respond to this incident. Thank you for your patience.”
