Leamington Editorial 10th Nov, 2020 Updated: 10th Nov, 2020   0

THE DEADLINE for nominations for the Leamington Business Awards’ covid resilience ceremony is approaching.

Established in 2014, the annual awards – which this year have been postponed to early 2021- champion and celebrate the work of local businesses, individuals and organisations while also raising money for local charities.

The main categories are set to be announced in the new year, but nominations have been pouring in for a preliminary ceremony celebrating a year of resilience. Some 30 entries so far range from educators to bakers and dog trainers to inventors.

The three categories include ‘Business Resilience’, ‘Business Pivoting’ and ‘Lockdown Hero’.

Business resilience recognises companies which have demonstrated determination and resilience during the pandemic while the business pivot category is open to those which can demonstrate how they have adapted their product or service during 2020 in order to survive.

The lockdown hero award recognises the Leamington business which has gone above and beyond during 2020 – for example providing free products or services to vulnerable groups or struggling businesses, or spreading positivity during challenging times. In this category, businesses can either self-nominate, or nominate another business.

Organiser Jonathan Smith said: ”We have heard of Business Pivots where tens of thousands of PPE visors have been produced for frontline workers and the wonderful Lockdown Heroes where over 70,000 meals were provided to NHS staff. What has been particularly noticeable is the number of public nominations where people have been so impressed by what the local businesses have done for their communities and have felt compelled to put them forward.”

The event will be broadcast live online from Noisegate Media Studio in Leamington on December 11, hosted by local DJ and event host, Kirsty Leahy and featuring a message from Matt Western MP for Warwick and Leamington.

The three finalists from each category will receive hamper containing food, drinks and goodies.

Nominations for the three categories are still being accepted until Friday November 20.

Nominations for the main Leamington Business Awards will open on January 21 when businesses have the opportunity to enter 12 categories.
