Can you find the books being hidden around Leamington?

IF you go down to the woods today you might find birds and bees – but also books.

Mum-of-one Jennifer Burns has been hiding books around Leamington since the beginning of August, after being inspired when she and five-year-old daughter Olivia discovered one in woodland while on holiday in Lancashire.

And after the pair enjoyed the experience of reading the book and re-hiding it, Jennifer decided to bring the fun a little closer to home.

Now she has a Facebook group with more than 360 members, many who joined after finding a book while out on their travels.

Jennifer, a GP at Warwick Gates Surgery, said: “My daughter loved finding the book on holiday and I saw their group on Facebook grow from strength to strength so was keen to bring the idea closer to home.

“We’ve hidden about 50 books so far with the local homelessness support charity Helping Hands kindly offering a regular book donation which is fantastic.”

Each book is placed in a plastic bag – which finders are urged to reuse – with a note directing people to the Facebook page and instructing them to read the book before re-hiding it.

So far books have been hidden at sites including Ryton Pools, Cubbington Woods and Victoria Park.

And people visiting the town have even taken the books away to re-hide and spread the word in their home areas.

Jennifer said: “It’s free fun for the family.

“The aim of the group is to find and hide books. To read together and enjoy.”
