Canal festival set to moor up in Leamington

Leamington Editorial 19th Jun, 2018   0

THE CANAL Festival will be mooring up in Leamington on Sunday (June 24).

Clemens Street will be closed while boaters and residents enjoy all the area has to offer next to the Grand Union Canal.

Along with a bar, food vans, stalls and live music, there will also be a model boat building competition.

The free festival will run from 10am to 6pm and is being funded by grants from Leamington town and Warwick district councils.

Volunteers from local canal group the Grand Union Gardeners have been busy getting the area ready along with staff from furniture manufacturer Vitsoe.

They have been gardening the area which runs along canal, including planting bee and insect-friendly plants.

Group spokeswoman Kristie Naimo said: “We’ve been liaising with the Canal and River Trust and they are pleased to see these improvements taking place – tidying up the established vegetation and creating new areas of planting.

“On this occasion we were really pleased to have help from staff at Vitsoe.”

The gardeners meet every Wednesday morning from 10am near the Clemens Street access to the canal. New gardeners are welcome.
