A DEDICATED charity director has been crowed the best in the West Midlands.

Marie Bawden, chief executive of Castel Froma, scooped the Institute of Directors’ ‘not-for-profit’ award.

The Leamington-based charity she works for was established in 1874 and supports around 400 vulnerable adults each year who suffer from conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease and Huntington’s Disease.

Marie joined Castel Froma in 2009 as director of HR and finance and made the step up to chief executive in 2015.

Since then the charity has increased its resident capacity and welcomed around 60 new members of staff.

Marie said: “I was very surprised to get the award but it really is a great honour.

“It’s very pleasing to be acknowledged in this way but it’s not just me, there’s a very strong team here behind me and very dedicated staff.

“It’s great that Castel Froma has been recognised in this way, we’ve come through a tough period of change over the past five years and now we’re running at near full capacity and able to provide a high standard of care.

“Getting recognition with awards like this is fantastic for the charity and helps to make more people aware of the work that we do at our sites.”
