Century of Rotary history told in poster exhibition

THE HISTORY of Leamington Rotary Club is told in posters at a new exhibition.

It can be seen at the town’s Royal Priors shopping centre and charts the story of the work of the club, which is celebrating 100 years of dedicated service to the local community and international humanitarian causes.

From its inauguration in July 1925 to the present day, the exhibition chronicles the club’s contribution to local charities, as well as to national and international projects.

In the last ten years alone it has raised and distributed almost £200,000 – half for local causes and the remainder equally split between national and global undertakings.

Recent major fund-raising initiatives have included the Trees of Light project, raising more than £100,000 for Myton Hospice, the annual classic car show in the Pump Rooms Gardens, a Taste of Leamington dining experience, where 200 diners sample courses at some of the town’s favourite restaurants, and Santa Claus in the Royal Priors, giving away hundreds of presents every year to local children.

Internationally, the club has played its part in Rotary’s global mission, including efforts to eradicate polio, promote clean water projects and provide disaster relief. Members have forged partnerships that reflect Rotary’s worldwide network of 1.4million members, demonstrating that local action can have global impact.

Club president Ataberk Keskisolgu said: “Reaching a centenary is a remarkable milestone and this poster exhibition charts our progress through the last 100 years. The club has worked closely with local charities and voluntary organisations, forming partnerships that strengthen the social fabric of the town, and has long supported young people through mentoring, scholarships and youth competitions, helping to nurture leadership and confidence in the next generation.

“And, as the town continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to addressing contemporary challenges, such as social isolation, mental wellbeing and environmental sustainability,” he said.

The posters exhibition can be found in the windows of the former Top Shop store on the ground floor of the shopping centre.
