Charity challenge for Leamington advertisers

BEING unable to make it into the office on Monday because you’re stuck fund-raising at a hotel more than 2,000 miles away in Cyprus is an unlikely scenario.

But it was one a team of employees from Denfield Advertising were almost faced with after they took part in a charity ‘jail break’ challenge in aid of The Myton Hospices.

The four-strong group of Mike Colledge, Harry Goossens, Mike Hillard and Nathan Munro set off from Warwick Myton Hospice in a bid to get as far away as possible without spending a penny.

After hitch-hiking their way to one of their company’s clients, Arbury Peugeot, a salesman offered to drive them to Birmingham Airport.

And having arrived at the airport armed with fund-raising buckets, they were then offered four one-way flights to Paphos.

They began to collect for the charity on board and the adventure then continued when they landed.

Team member Mike Colledge said: “Once through customs, a Thomson rep flagged us down and said she’d had a call from our cabin crew asking if there was any room on a transfer.

“They kindly let us board a Paphos town centre transfer, which had 4 spare seats and after handing around the collection tin again and explaining our plight to our fellow passengers, we were dropped off in Paphos.

“We walked for another hour or so and came across a small B&B where we decided to call it a night. We had some food and a well-deserved beer before heading to bed after an incredible journey.

“Temperatures reached 28 degrees and our skinny jeans just weren’t cutting it so we had a spontaneous dip in the pool before starting the journey back to the airport. Fortunately after the initial shock, our bosses agreed to get us back!”

Not only did the men managed to make it back to the office for 9am, they also raised more than £2,150 for Myton – money which will go towards the team’s Take 50 total.

The Take 50 challenge offers teams the chance to prove their business skills by turning £50 into as much money as possible for the charity in just 50 days.

The Myton Hospices has bases in Warwick, Coventry and Rugby and needs to raise more than £8 million a year to keep its services running.
