Check your Christmas lights are safe urge fire chiefs

CHRISTMAS tree lights should be checked before being put up.

Warwickshire fire and trading standards chiefs are urging people to look out for are signs of faulty wiring, plugs which get hot when in use and lights which flicker.

Those who are unsure of how safe their lights are can get them checked for free on Monday (November 28) – between 9.30am and 11.30am at Leamington Library, and 1pm and 4pm at Kenilworth Library.

County community safety spokesman Coun John Horner said: “Christmas tree lights are the one electrical product that we often use for many years without replacing. However, older tree lights may not meet modern safety standards and lights of any age can be damaged if they are not stored correctly, or when they are kept in damp or very hot conditions, such as garages or insulated lofts.”
