Christmas lunch in Warwick welcomed those with nowhere else to go

A FREE festive lunch for lonely people in Warwick proved to be a Christmas cracker.

Warwick district councillor Terry Morris and Liz Jackson usually spend the festive season at home with family.

But this Christmas was much different for the kind-hearted pair, who offered a free three-course lunch to anyone facing spending the day on their own.

Nearly 60 guests and 20 volunteers turned up to spend Christmas Day in the ballroom at Warwick Court House – along with singers, a caricaturists and even Santa.

And the pair had so many offers of help they even had to start turning away volunteers.

Terry said: “The feedback received was that the Warwick Town Christmas Lunch was amazing. Volunteers spent their Christmas Day working incredibly hard to ensure that everyone had a great time.

“So many people helped the event be successful and Liz and I want to pass on our heart-felt thanks to everyone who contributed.”

And the pair felt it was so good they may do the same again this year.

Terry added: “Lots of people have asked whether we will do this again in 2018. We’d love to host another Christmas Lunch for those in Warwick – watch this space!”
