CHRISTMAS will be going ahead at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Lillington.

The church is holding a number of services online and in church in a bid to beat the pandemic.

Rev William Smith said: “Our celebrations this year will be different from any others we have experienced. With the pandemic impacting on all our lives, the uncertainty may be an invitation to see things differently.”

Candlelit Christingle services on Christmas Eve will be held with social distancing in place at 1pm, 2.30pm, 4pm and 5.30pm. Booking is essential.

On Christmas day midnight mass will be held at 11.30pm and a Christmas celebration at 10am. Tickets can be booked online or it can be streamed on the church website.

And the church’s annual Christmas tree festival will be held outside the church this year. Nearly 30 decorated trees will be on show until Monday (January 4).

Organiser Charlotte Sanders said: “ The idea is to provide a quiet opportunity for local people to come and spend time in the churchyard, enjoying the trees and meditating on the real meaning of Christmas. The crib scene in the Octagon windows will illustrate this beautifully, and it should be a calm and maybe even prayerful experience for all.”
