PUPILS at Clapham Terrance Primary School are being encouraged to open their eyes and read more.
Volunteers from the National Literacy Trust and Boots Opticians visited the school to tell children about the importance of looking after their eyes, going to the opticians and reading for pleasure.
Children were also given copies of books to brush up on their reading skills.
National Literacy Trust Director Jonathan Douglas said: “A child with an undiagnosed eye condition will not be able to read easily, which will prevent them from experiencing the joys of books. Children who enjoy reading will do better at school and are more likely to get a good job as well as be healthier and have stronger relationships.”
