Con-artists targeting residents with sub-standard mattresses and unnecessary building work

UNSCRUPULOUS con-artists are targeting Warwickshire residents by trying to sell them sub-standard mattresses and unnecessary roofing and driveway work.

Warwickshire Trading Standards has warned residents to beware of door to door mattress sellers.

The sellers often employ high-pressure sales techniques, and may claim the products are surplus stock from new development show-homes or that they are top of the range products – when they may actually be cheap imports that don’t meet UK fire safety regulations.

A warning was also issued over rogue traders who are leafleting residents offering roofing and driveway work.

The fraudsters use bogus local addresses and telephone numbers linked to mobile phones, making them appear local – where in reality they are very hard to trace. They charge high prices and the work they carry out is poor and often unnecessary.

Warwickshire Trading Standards advised residents to never buy goods or services from unexpected doorstep sellers, and if in doubt, keep your door closed.

Call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 to report rogue traders.
