Coronavirus: Business as usual for Warwick District Council ‘Shielding Hub’ over Easter

THERE will be no break in the schedule this Easter Monday for the team at Warwick District Council’s ‘Shielding Hub’.

Rather than being at home, around 30 council staff will be busy preparing food boxes ready for distribution, to an ever growing list of local people who are clinically vulnerable and unable to leave their homes.

For the past two weeks the district council team has been working in partnership with Warwickshire County Council with support from community and voluntary groups in a district wide operation.

This week around 230 boxes containing essential items including milk, eggs, tea, coffee, ready meals, tins, vegetables and pasta were prepared and dispatched to residents who have made contact with the local authorities advising that they need assistance.

Will Paterson, whose parents received a delivery, said: “I would like to extend our family’s heartfelt thanks for the parcel you delivered to our parents, on Myton Road, earlier this week. It really helped them practically and emotionally. We are very grateful.”

The council is aware that there are more individuals and households in the district, in need of support.

Council leader Andrew Day said: “I would like to pay tribute to the Council’s team for their achievements in setting up this vital operation in a very short period of time.

“We now have the resources in place to expand the service beyond those identified on the government’s NHS Shielding List. I would therefore urge those who are, or know of someone who is vulnerable and self-isolating to make contact either through their GP or by contacting either the District or County Council using the dedicated telephone numbers.”

Anyone who is elderly, has an underlying medical condition and/or is vulnerable and without access to existing support networks is advised to contact their GP or call the Warwick District Council dedicated support number 01926 451111 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) or contact Warwickshire County Council 0800 4081447 (Good Friday & Saturday 9am to 3pm and Sunday & Easter Monday) 9am to 12 noon) for support and advice.
