COUNCIL chiefs hope Jaguar Land Rover’s latest expansion plans will prove good news for Warwick district.
JLR’s chief executive Dr Ralf Speth revealed the car maker wants to double production from 500,000 to a million cars a year.
And he said a site could be found in the Midlands for a new manufacturing plant to produce batteries for a new generation electric vehicles.
Leader of Warwick District Council, Coun Andrew Mobbs, said: “JLR is already heavily represented within Warwick district.
“The council has worked closely with them on their expansion at the former Honiley airfield site at Fen End and we have approved planning permission for the major expansion of their research and development facilities at Whitley South.
“We will continue to work closely with the company whenever and wherever appropriate to assist them with their planned future growth which is a key component of the continuing success of the Coventry and Warwickshire economy.”
Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, chairman of Warwick Manufacturing Group, predicts JLR’s vision could see some 10,000 new jobs created in the West Midlands.
Dr Speth also challenged the Government to assist an expansion and construction of new manufacturing facilities by helping to upgrade power supplies and invest in infrastructure.
