County council to review decision not to join WMCA

Leamington Editorial 26th Feb, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

WARWICKSHIRE could still end up as part of a West Midlands ‘super-council’.

Warwickshire County Council has agreed to “explore fully” the possibility of joining the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

Council officers are now set to draw up a business case weighing up the benefit of joining the WMCA – which Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton have already agreed in principle to form.

The aim is for the business case to be ready in three months.

Warwickshire voted back in September not to join the WMCA, but just a few weeks later decided to re-consider the possibility.

Warwick District Council has already decided not to join – fearing the interests of people living in town and rural areas could come second to those living in cities.
