County council to support fire service in risk management plans

WARWICKSHIRE’s fire service has outlined key objectives to make the county safer.

Warwickshire County Council has pledged its support to the ‘Integrated Risk Management Plan’ which sets out the areas of work which Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service intend to develop over the next three years.

These include collaborative working with other emergency services to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, reviewing the number, location and resourcing of fire stations and engines and maximising workforce flexibility.

Though supportive of the objectives, councillors also said the fire service has become thinly stretched, and efficient and an effective use of resources would need to be considered.

Fire safety spokesman Coun Howard Roberts said: “I am delighted that the plan has received the support of full council. The service has worked hard over the last few years to improve its response standard, increase training, support and leadership for retained firefighters and increase their water rescue capability to flooding and fast flowing water incidents.

“I now look forward to seeing how the changes will improve the lives of the residents of Warwickshire.”
