Couple take on mud run in memory of much-loved relative

A HUSBAND and wife team have taken on a mud run to raise money for a cause close to their hearts’.

Steve and Helen Piper completed the Wild Warrior course in memory of Helen’s mum, Janet Roche, who died last year following an eight month battle with brain cancer.

The couple raised more than £1,100, taking the total the family has raised for the charity to £6,000.

Dad-of-two Steve – who works for AC Lloyd in Leamington – said: “My in-laws had lived in Spain for five years until Helen’s mum collapsed and was rushed to hospital where she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. Janet had a short course of radiotherapy in Spain before returning to the UK for end-of-life care.

“It was a really tough time and made more difficult by the fact Helen was nearly nine months pregnant with our second child at her mum’s funeral.

“We both wanted to fund-raise for The Brain Tumour Charity since not as much money is spent on researching this form of cancer.”
