Cricket-loving ladies offered some top coaching

LEAMINGTON Cricket Club is calling on girls of all ages to join them for a special day celebrating the ever-increasing popularity of the women’s game.

The club, which is based in Arlington Avenue, is holding a day dedicated to coaching girls of all abilities on Wednesday (August 7), as part of a week-long festival of cricket.

An open event for those aged seven upwards, expert women coaches will lead both soft ball and hard ball skills, along with soft ball game play, as part of a fun day running from 10am until 3pm.

Kevin Mitchell, chairman of Leamington Cricket Club and a partner at Leamington law firm Blythe Liggins, which sponsors the club’s women and girls’ section, said: “We are very excited at the prospect of the women and girls’ day and opening up our great game to even more females.

“Women’s cricket is a fast-growing sport and I’m happy to say Leamington has had four girls called up for county duty this summer.

“This day is aimed at all abilities, whether it be a youngster who has never held a bat before or a teenager looking to hone her hard ball skills – there will be something for everyone, all led by experienced and talented female coaches.”

The club is running the women and girls’ day in association with Solihull-based Complete Cricket, which specialises in delivering a range of unique coaching programmes for individuals, schools, clubs, universities and county boards.

Warwickshire Women cricketer and Complete Cricket coach Bethan Ellis said: “It should be a great day at the club. More girls than ever before are playing cricket and anything that promotes the game to those who wouldn’t perhaps have taken it up otherwise is a really good thing.”

The event costs £20 for the day. Visit to book and for further details.
