TWO wheels rather than four were order of the day in Leamington as the world’s best women cyclists pedalled into town.
The 151km stage 3 of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour on Friday took the riders from Atherstone to Leamington via a roundabout route which also took them through Southam and Wellesbourne.
The riders were welcomed at the finish line on the Parade by a cycle-themed carnival atmosphere, which included everything from mini races for tots to stilt-riding cyclists. Spectators even had a chance to compete for the Tour’s coveted green race leader’s jersey by pedalling away at the OVO Virtual Reality Cycling Challenge.
Australia’s Chloe Hosking won a bunch sprint finish to take the Leamington stage, leading home 89 other riders after a gruelling four hours in the saddle.
The 650km tour finished in the centre of London on Sunday, with Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma taking the overall title.
