Dementia cash receives cash boost

Leamington Editorial 25th Aug, 2019   0

A DEMENTIA cafe in Warwick has bagged £4,000 from a community grant scheme.

The cafe known as ‘ReCollections’ received the cash from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme to continue its monthly sessions at the Market Hall Museum.

Those with dementia and their family members or carers are invited to relax, tour the museum and handle objects while enjoying a cuppa.

The sessions, run by Heritage and Culture Warwickshire, have included planting bulbs, playing old fashioned games, and baking with traditional recipes.

They are designed to jog memories and create nostalgia for the participants.

HCW aims to develop a ‘loan box service’, using the £4,000, to be hired by community groups, care homes and individuals. The dementia-friendly boxes are designed to be multi-sensory and include items such as books, music and reminiscence activities.

Visit heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk for information on the dementia cafe.
