Digital first for Warwickshire heritage

A FESTIVAL will celebrate a digital first in Warwickshire.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire (HCW) is marking the end of its ‘Warwickshire Bytes’ project with a week of digital activities and events this week.

The project – launched in 2018 – aimed to create a digital heritage for the county by making significant historical records available online with the help of volunteers.

The events include the showcasing of historic items and documents, a #silvertakeover of the HCW’s social media pages by older volunteers, a ‘Let’s Make’ event at Rugby library and a ‘transcribathon’ where people can have a go at indexing a witness statement.

County heritage spokeswoman Heather Timms said: “We are really pleased with what the project has achieved, and delighted that we now have volunteers that can take forward some of the other ideas the council has had in making information of this kind available to everybody in Warwickshire and beyond!”

The event runs until Friday (March 6).
