District set for more electrical vehicle charging points

MORE electric vehicle charging points are being installed in Warwick District Council car parks.

Some 40 extra charge points will be operational by spring in Chandos Street, Abbey End and West Rock and Hampton Road.

The programme, which has been funded by government, also includes eight more sockets in St Peter’s Multi-Storey Car Park.

District council environment spokesman Coun Alan Rhead said: “As electric vehicles become more affordable and technology improves, we have to make it as easy as possible for local people to make the transition from diesel and petrol.

“Along with the availability of free parking permits, what amounts to a seven-fold increase in the number of public charging points available is another significant step in our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in our district.”
