District's youngsters pick up GCSE results

YOUNGSTERS across the district have been tearing open the envelopes with their GCSE results in.

This is the last year exams will be graded with letters A to E – a new system will see the next round of teenagers looking at numbers with 9 being the highest grade.

Despite fears this year’s results would be lowered nationally by a high number of pupils re-taking exams, schools across the district have received outstanding results, with many celebrating their best ever GCSE’s.

SOUTHAM COLLEGE are celebrating record GCSE results with 87 per cent of students achieving A* to C grades in English and Maths.

Hannah Clayton, Sarah Dimambro-Denson and Ella Sparks were each awarded nine A* grades and two As.

Headteacher Ranjit Samra commented: “In the context of new curriculum content these are our best ever results.

“We are delighted for students, staff and parents who have all worked tirelessly to ensure that every student fulfills their maximum potential.

“These results should give every student the belief that with hard work anything is possible.”

STRATFORD SCHOOL are also celebrating their best ever results with 43 per cent of grades across all subjects graded A* to B.

65 per cent of pupils achieved five A* to C in subjects including English and Maths and 19 per cent of the grades across all subjects were graded A*or A.

Notable achievements came from Helen Jolly, Olivia Gladstone, Holly Mann, Amy Whittlestone, Anna Hall, Katherine Dobedoe and Jess Shepherd.

Headteacher Neil Wallace said “These record results follow on the back of our very good Ofsted report recently and show that the school has made significant progress over the last few years. We’ve just had confirmation that our A Level results over the last couple of years rank the school in the top 25% of schools nationally for value added. With our commitment to Engage, Enthuse and Inspire students and these impressive results, there has never been a better time for students to study at Stratford”.

KES pupils achieved a 100 per cent pass rate with three-quarters of papers graded A* or A.

Pascal Vogiaridis secured twelve A*s grades, Adam Hardy, Louis Jackson. William Jolley, Alex Matthews and Joe Pocknell earned themselves eleven A*s and Tom Brook, Han Chung, Martin Edmondson, Michael Keane and Richard Wood were all awarded 10 A*s.

Bennet Carr, Headmaster, said: “These pleasing results are testament to the wonderful commitment shown by both the students and staff, and both groups deserve the warmest congratulations.

“Crucially, these results provide an excellent foundation for success in the Sixth Form, and I look forward to following our students’ progress, and that of those who join us, over the next two years.”

STRATFIRD GIRLS GRAMMAR pupils achieved record exam results too.

Over 80 per cent of grades awarded were A* and A – 83 per cent of pupils earned eight or more A* and A grades.

And Louise Averill, Lucy Hong, Sophie Smith and Emily Usselmann all achieved 12 A* grades.

Headteacher Kate Barnett said: “I am delighted to be able to share in the girls’ joy at such excellent results. There has been much in the news recently about the pressures on teenage girls, and they certainly do push themselves very hard.

“It is therefore great to see their efforts rewarded so handsomely. I am sure they will want to thank their teachers – and their parents – for all their support.”
