Dream new build home turns into nightmare for Warwick mum

A DREAM home quickly turned into a nightmare for a Warwick mum after she discovered the new-build was riddled with problems.

Jane Garvey was set to move into the three-bedroom detached £365,000 Bovis home on Warwick Gates shortly before Christmas.

But immediately on getting the keys the 32-year-old was forced to move in with her parents after she found smashed windows, missing bricks, a broken boiler and a sharp abandoned pipe sticking up from the floor.

The mum-of-one finally moved in more than three months later but had further cause for complaint with wonky kitchen units, an ill-fitting front door, gaping gaps between the wall and staircase, and further boiler problems which she was forced to call the manufacturer herself to get fixed.

It took the housebuilder until May to agree to fix the front door but after the repair work, it still had gaps.

The problems caused Jane, a cancer nurse at Solihull Hospital, to take off two weeks from work with stress.

She told the Observer: “They just don’t take me seriously. It feels like they just say things to pacify me and because it looks good on paper. They say ‘we’re looking into it’ but there’s no substance to any of it.

“I get promised they’ll do my drive and build a patio. I’m told things will get sorted and then the site manager doesn’t talk to me for four weeks.

“They don’t think I’ll notice everything’s wrong. It’s draining. I’m so stressed out.”

Bovis Homes confirmed it was committed to fully repairing the house.

A spokesperson responded: “We would like to apologise to Ms Webster-Garvey that her experience has not been up to the standards on which we pride ourselves. The regional customer care director and site manager have been in regular contact in order to resolve the issues and we currently have tradesmen at the customer’s home carrying out remedial work.

“Further work is scheduled for next month after which we will meet with Ms Webster-Garvey again to ensure a positive conclusion. We are proud that across our West Midlands region, more than four in five customers would recommend Bovis Homes to a friend or relative, and we remain committed to working with Ms Webster-Garvey to resolve her issues, and provide the quality home she deserves.”
